Welcome back to The Resilient Leader. Your coach and friend, Charlotte Edwards here. This week's topic, built under pressure. Have you ever had a season where everything just feels heavy?
More responsibility, more decisions, more demand on your time, your energy, your focus, and you start to wonder, "Can I really handle all of this?"
Remember, pressure is preparation. What if the pressure you're feeling right now isn't working against you, but it's actually working for you? As leaders, we often interpret pressure as a sign that something is wrong, but many times pressure is a simple sign that your capacity is being stretched. You're being asked to think differently, lead differently, show up at a higher level.
Maybe your business is growing. You have more clients, but also there's more complexity in that. Your team may be adjusting or expanding, which requires more leadership and less of the hands-on control. You stepped into a bigger role, more visibility, but that equates to more responsibility.
Or you're solving bigger problems than you used to. None of that is accidental. It's growth. Remember, capacity is built, not given. No one starts out with the capacity they need for the next level. It's developed. You're in development phase right now, and how is it developed? Through repetition, through challenge, by navigating things you've never done before. What feels overwhelming today becomes manageable tomorrow, and eventually becomes second nature.
So don't shrink back when you feel stretched. Here's where many leaders miss it. When things feel heavy, the instinct is to pull back, delay action and decisions, question yourself, retreat to what feels comfortable. But shrinking back keeps your capacity small. Leaning in is what expands you. Growth doesn't happen when you step back. It happens when you step through. One day, you'll look back at this season, and what once felt overwhelming will feel normal because you grew through it.
So this week, ask yourself, where am I feeling stretched right now? Am I resisting the pressure or allowing myself to step through? Don't run from the weight. It may be building the strength you've been asking for.
So this week, take care, have an amazing week, and don't shrink back when you feel stretched.
