Module Five: Shared Leadership – 2 Days

 

 

  • Understand the distinction between management and leadership.
  • Accept that leadership means different things to different people and that people follow those whom they see to be performing acts of leadership, whether or not they have a leadership role.
  • Measure your leadership focus and behavior using the Dimensions of Leadership Profile®.
  • Develop the leadership process with three steps to performing an act of leadership.
  • Determine where to focus attention by recognizing that leaders change that which gets their attention. Remember that effectiveness increases with shared leadership because different people notice different things.
  • Learn to make the transition from the sole leader role of the buffalo, to the shared leadership role of the flock of geese.
  • The role of the manager in a shared leadership environment.
  • The Leader/Follower Response Cycle identifies when to lead and when to follow.
  • Apply what is learned though preparation for implementing a continuous improvement process in the team through shared leadership.
  • Wrap up reviews the entire Leadership Development Process™ with presentations from participants.

FOLLOW UP APPLICATION

  • Introduce team members to the shared leadership model and different focuses of attention.
  • Take team members through the Dimensions of Leadership Profile®.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings focusing on what team members are noticing that needs improvement, to ensure all team members are encouraged to continue to contribute acts of leadership.
